Hi – I’m Cathy Davies, and I am 60 years old.

I’m a yoga therapist and yoga teacher, and a cognitive behavioural master coach. Before doing this wonderful work, I had a long and “successful” career as a HR Consultant, so this is my second career and I am very grateful for it.
For many years, I was treated for depression and anxiety whilst upholding a busy career and family life. Which is why “successful” is a doubtful description! Although I had position and privilege, respect and opportunity, I also had a very early menopause. Alongside this, I suffered a ream of stress-related physical conditions like IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) and severe asthma. I was overweight, under-nourished and deeply unhappy.
And I could not sleep.
I was exhausted and sleep-deprived for so long that I believed I would die early.
My issues with sleep brought me to yoga and mindfulness, eventually.
And my life changed, wholly and entirely. As did my ability to sleep, thankfully.
I booked on a yoga teacher’s course with a sleep consultant, before I even qualified as a yoga teacher. And then, things started to change.
Slowly but surely, I learned to reframe how I thought and felt about sleep. It touched my diet, my exercise and rest patterns, my medication and HRT. And most of all – it touched my tendency to anxiety, stress, overdoing stuff, going too hard on myself …. I think you get how deep this went, with me!
We are all different, and my issues are certainly not going to be the same as yours. But the point is: There is hope and some light at the end of that dark sleepless tunnel!
