I had the amazing privilege to spend a week during June 2016 with 8 inspirational women at Shanticentre in the beautiful agriculture province of Abruzzo in Italy. I know that a yoga retreat is not only about the food, the venue and the teacher. Most importantly, it is about the guests first and foremost.
But when those things all work together, in harmony, it creates magic. And I can honestly say that for me, as a yoga teacher, this particular retreat was very special. Because it was, in all truth, MAGICAL!
Of course, the wonderfully tranquill and healing space of Shanticentre played a major part in this. As did Rupert’s fabulous food, Jude’s brilliant hospitality and energy (not to mention great Reiki and massage!), the brilliant local wine (Trebbiano and Montepulciano), the stunning weather and the copious amounts of cheese we consumed. Cheese was a major theme of this retreat. I must be the only yoga teacher in the universe who returns from teaching a yoga retreat heavier than when I set off!
But the magic was made by the people – These women, who had mostly never met each other, became a tribe within the first day. Physically, they were very diverse. But hearts, minds and spirits gelled together so quickly into what I can only describe as a celebration of the divine female. The atmosphere during the yoga practice was electric. By the last day, I hardly had to give cues – There seemed to be a bond of mutual support that hardly required words. They even breathed in unison!
All I can say, from the bottom of my heart, is thank you! To each one of you lovely women, for choosing to come on my retreat, for laughing and crying and breathing, and for being so accepting and supportive of each other. Thanks to Gayna for the inspirational speeches and the great facials. Thanks to Maggie for entertaining us with her beautiful singing voice. Thanks to Jane for making us laugh and for buying the cheese. Thanks to Sally for beating everyone at Scrabble, and thanks to Diane for teaching me about 2-letter words, as well as taking beautiful photos under the trees with me. Thanks to Lesley for inspiring us all with her fitness and going for a run every morning. Thanks to Barbara for the interesting anecdotes and funny stories. And thanks to Becky, for fitting in so well and accepting the foibles and traits of us older ladies!
I will let the photos speak for themselves.
I also have an option for 28th August to 3rd September.
If you would like to come along, please let me know ASAP as the first week is already half filled.
