Smile … Move … Breathe …. Live!
Yoga is about living in one’s body with ease, acceptance and compassion. To relish the joys of simply being alive, and to enjoy the blessings of having a healthy, fully functioning body – whatever that means to you.
The key aim of Diversity Yoga is to bring the health benefits and mindful approach of yoga to the wider population of the UK.
Cathy Richardson is the founder of Diversity Yoga. She says:
“After several years of my own dedicated yoga practice, I am fitter, healthier, happier and generally in far better shape than I have been for years. Yoga provides an amazing coping mechanism when the stress of modern business life steals our joy, reducing us to less than what we can be. Sharing joy creates joy, and if I can have a positive impact on only just one body, then I would have achieved my purpose. Clearly, if many people benefit from this offering then it will be joy multiplied!”
Diversity Yoga is about getting healthier, fitter, happier and more receptive of the one body we were all blessed with. Every body is different. As every life has taken a different path, so every body has different patterns, ranges of motion, levels of flexibility and strength. Some of these patterns and habits are healthy and good, others are less so. But our bodies are the vehicles for our lives, lifestyle choices and the challenges we face everyday. The output can be good or bad, depending on the choices we make and the situations we find ourselves in.
Diversity Yoga is for those bodies that are on the journey of discovery that is life. The bodies that have born children, dealt with accidents and injuries, harbored pain and have lived full and challenging lives. Diversity Yoga is for bodies that get pushed to their maximum in sport or physical activity. The bodies that are not always appreciated and treated with kindness and compassion. Bodies that cope with stress, emotional challenges and unhealthy dietary choices. Diversity Yoga is for the bodies that make our daily lives happen – Bodies that get ill, deal with stress, handle grief and joy, life and death: The bodies in which we live fully every day.
Diversity Yoga is for every body.
Through our programs, classes and teachings we hope to bring the joy and ease of healthful movement to those who need it most. We deliver strength and flexibility to the bodies that will take us into old age, giving a healthy range of motion and a positive outlook to deal with the natural ageing processes. Diversity Yoga will have options to help avoid injury and recovery in sport. There will be offerings that recognise the difference in male and female bodies, acknowledging that men and women move in different ways and so need different types of exercise to aid fitness and flexibility.
